Summary0000372: How do I migrate VisualDiffer one my old Mac to a new Mac
DescriptionHow do I migrate VisualDiffer one my old Mac to a new Mac.

I have the latest version (2024) of the App installed on my Intel iMAC Mojave (32bit) which has been my main computer. I now have an M4 Mac mini and would like to install Visualdiffer even if it is not now supported.

Can I please copy/move Visualdiffer elements from various folders from my old intel mac to my mac silicon machine. I believe the latest versions of Visualdiffer supported Mac silicon, but don't know if the right elements & components of Visualdiffer exist on my Intel iMac machine to make visualdiffer work on my my silicon Mac.

I am not asking to redownload the App as I have seen you have said it is not available anymore.

Perhaps you can help please with how to migrate to a newer machine and in my case from an installation on Intel to Mac Silicon.

Thanks
Jools

If you have the latest version 1.8.x, you should be able to copy VisualDiffer.app from the old computer to the new one

If this doesn't work I can send to you a copy, hoping this resolves

Hi there. Copied Visualdiffer.app from my old Mac and it seems to run fine on my new Mac. Thank you!

When I do "Get Info" on the Application running on my M4 Mac, it says Application(Universal) so I guess the Visualdiffer.app is now running Apple Silicon native - even though I copied the file from an Intel Machine ?! Wow

I appreciate the Visualdiffer.app is no longer supported but thank you for still being here to answer questions and help out.

yes, VisualDiffer is Silicon native. A more reliable way to verify the binary type is running "Activity Monitor" app, add "Kind" to the columns and check if it is "Apple" or "Intel"

Hi. I just checked in "Activity Monitor" app, and "Kind" is "Apple" , so running native. thank you for that tip.
